LIPS (Laser Induced Plasma Spectrometer)

LIPS (Laser Induced Plasma Spectrometer)

The LIPS (Laser Induced Plasma Spectrometer) is a self-developed element testing equipment built in the ImaGeo corescanner. A high-energy Nd-Yag light produces a 0.1 mm diameter plasma spot. From its emitted light, with the help of a spectroscopic method, the elements in the plasma and their percentage distribution is determined.

Due to the corescanner control, the sampling spot is selected on the scanned image, in a reproducable and documentable way. After selecting the measuring spot, the LIPS positions itself above it automatically and does the measurement. The spot of the measurement may be oriented, provided that the core can be oriented. The measurements can be done along a section or an area, too. The evaluating software belonging to the instrument shows the image of the measured area, the received spectrum, and the element concentrations, and it allows adjustment and calibration.
